Thrift Store Makeover: Boho Chic Planter
Make your own colorful, silk ribbon wrapped, boho chic planters from thrift store bowls! A quick and easy DIY.
This is Part Two of what may become a Thrift Store Makeover Series! It started with a Boho Chic Tray. I created these bright planters to adorn that tray.
I sourced two simple, glass bowls for $0.99 each from my local thrift store. The silk, sari ribbon is recycled and support global workers. I found it on Amazon here. (Affiliate link.)
I did spray paint them first, just so the base would have some color. Once completed, I realized this step really isn't necessary.
Apply Mod-Podge (or your favorite adhesive) to the bowl. I use a paint brush to control the application. A disposable foam brush would work well too. I cut the strips of silk ribbon into 6-8 inch strips so that I could blend the colors. This also keeps it from tangling as you wrap.
Start at the bottom and work your way up. Once you have the first layer in place, apply a little more adhesive to the top half of the first ribbon layer and then overlap slightly. Continue to the top of the bowl. At this point, I allowed it to dry for about 30 minutes before filling the bowl.
At this point, I allowed it to dry for about 30 minutes before filling the bowl with assorted leafy plants and succulents. They just pop against the crisp black and white tray.
