Color Dipped Wood Kitchen Utensils

Color Dipped Wood Kitchen Utensils

I found a giant bag of wood kitchen utensils at my favorite discount store for $8.00.  You can't have too many right?  I decided to recreate a popular Pinterest look by giving them a paint dipped look.  This is a fun, quick weekend craft!

I selected some fun, summer, sherbert paint colors.  Painting just the ends, each a different color . . . is so fun!  This is a quick craft.  It only took me about 20 minutes to paint them all.  After the first set were painted, I added a second coat and finished that with a coat of clear, matte Modge-Podge so the paint would last through dish washing.

After I finished, I realized these would make a great gift!  Think new college student, Christmas, housewarming or hostess gift.  They would make me swoon if I received them.

Supplies:

  • Acrylic Paint in Your Choice of Colors
  • Modge-Podge in Your Choice of Finish (Matte or Glossy)
  • Wooden Kitchen Utensils
  • Brush
  • Paper Towels
  • Paper Plate
  • Pencil

To Make:

I covered my table with paper towels.  Use a pencil to draw a line where you would like the paint to start.  It's easier than painting the line freehand.  Squirt a dime sized dollop of paint in each color on the paper plate.  Start with the lightest color first and paint the handle using thin, even strokes.  I wiped off my paintbrush with a paper towel and proceeded to the next lightest color.  Follow this process until complete.  By now, the first one painted is done.  I repeated so that each handle received two coats of paint.  Now add a coat of Modge-Podge, making sure you cover all the painted surface.  Allow to dry.
