Orange-Vanilla Panna Cotta
Ok I'll be honest . . .this is just a grown up Creamsicle! My mother rarely allowed us commercial treats as kids, but when I could enjoy one, it was frequently a Creamsicle. The orange coating over the creamiest vanilla ice cream was not too sweet and my favorite summer treat.
We've been experiencing extreme heat the last week, so I was looking for a dessert that didn't require the oven. This creamy, citrus combination was the answer. It heats on the stove top in mere minutes and is served chilled.
It starts with a simple, classic vanilla panna cotta. The concentrated orange-vanilla sauce is what pulls it all together. I used two types of oranges, a blood orange and a clementine.
You can use pretty molds to shape the panna cotta like this:
Or use simple glass dishes. Either way it's a cool, refreshing dessert!
