Chai Rice Krispie Treats
Who doesn't love a Rice Krispie treat? I confess . . . I miss making snacks for my boys. I tried to always have a treat available when they came home from school. As long as my boys had a treat at the end of their school day, I felt like I was succeeding at parenting (wink).
My personal favorite was Rice Krispie treats. Simple, classic, sweet and crunchy. But alas, my little boys are now grown men . . . so the classic Rice Krispie treat needs a makeover to make it a "grown up" dessert. I'm proud to say that my youngest son professes this to be "the best ever!"
Sweet, yet with a warm spice that hits your nose just before your taste buds. I'm a huge Chai tea fan. I prefer it in a cold latte, but a milky, hot Chai on a Sunday night is a regular thing at my house. I've experimented with creating my own Chai blend of six spices. Everyone has their own personal blends. I keep a small jar of premixed spices to add into recipes when the opportunity strikes.
A basic Chai recipe includes ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, allspice, anise, and black pepper. The base amounts for me are:
- 3 parts Ginger
- 2 parts Cinnamon
- 1 part Cardamom
- 1 part Allspice
- 1/2 part Anise
- 1/2 part Black Pepper
With this formula, you can create a larger batch and have it on hand.
