DIY a Mango Lassi
I'll admit that until two weeks ago, I had never heard of this drink. It is a classic, cold drink from Indian cuisine. A colleague introduced me to this nearly guilt-free "milkshake" at our local farmer's market.
Once I started looking up information on this beverage, I realized most call for the addition of sugar and milk or ice for the sweet versions. They also create a savory option. I opted to omit the sugar and instead use honey. Because I used fresh, ripe mango, it was sweet enough without any additional sugar. If you like a thinner shake. then by all means add some milk (dairy or soy would be best). However, my fruit was juicy enough to thin the yogurt.
This is so quick and simple, you really don't need to use a formal recipe. You need fresh or frozen fruit, plain greek yogurt and honey. Oh, the possibilities! Strawberries instead of mango perhaps?
I peeled the mango and pulled the flesh off the seed. I used approximately 3/4 cup of fresh fruit. You could substitute frozen. No need to thaw.
I used the blender, but a smoothie maker would work great too. Blend 3/4-1 cup fruit with 1/2 cup unflavored yogurt and 1 tablespoon honey. Serves one.
I may keep some frozen fruit and yogurt at work so I can whip a glass up for a healthy afternoon treat.
Let me know what you think!
